These are strange times for many of us. A virus has led to many people having to self-isolate, to remain indoors and not go to work.
Putting to one side the financial worries and all the stresses that this situation brings; lots of us now have time to spare. It’s good to keep busy doing house-hold chores, a bit of DIY, or getting out in the garden.
Those of you with children can read them stories, play games and…well the world is your oyster when it comes to family fun.
But the reason for this post is to talk about podcasting. If you have ever thought about starting a podcast then now is the time to do it. And it likely won’t cost you a cent or a penny.
To record a podcast all you need is a smartphone and an app to record an MP3. Don’t worry about intro music etc. Just a simple: “Hello, this is [Your Name] and welcome to my podcast about this, that and the other…”
The key is not to get bogged down in technical stuff. Can you record your voice? If ‘yes’, then crack on and do a few takes until you get one you want to release. The more episodes you do the easier it gets. Do not second guess yourself. Do not compare yourself to your heroes. Do not hesitate.
Once you have your first podcast ready, create a free account at SoundCloud.com and any other free services you can lay your hands on.
You might need to create some artwork for your podcast logo. Again, keep it simple. Really simple. If you haven’t got an app to create artwork take a photo of something (square shape).
Excuses such as not having enough time to do a podcast are – for the moment – over. Now you have the time, you just need to give yourself permission to start and the confidence to carry on. It’s up to you to make things happen.
Tell you what; send me a link to your first episode and I’ll share it on PodcastingMadeEasy.co.uk
